Headsets, forks and stems

Postby freefunk » 01 Nov 2015, 10:10

I am about to take delivery of some new carbon forks for my son's Redline Junior, and its been a long time since I've taken bikes apart.

It looks like the stem actually clamps directly to the steerer - rather than in my day, there used to be an expanding stem bolt that went through into the steerer tube. Does this seem correct ?

What are peoples thoughts ? Is it worth the expense/effort to swapping to a new headset at same time ? Assume if the current one is already an integrated headset, you only want to replace with another after market headset.

Useful to know current opinion tip and thoughts, on how much benefit you'd get from installing new headset.

thanks
