Hi All - Advice on which Mini for the son

Postby hasselhough » 04 Nov 2014, 17:00

Hi all,

my son who's 4 has started BMXing up at Preston Pirates, great club, with loads turning out for the Saturday Morning lessons - so he's now hooked (well as hooked as a 4 year old can be)

so its come to me putting my hand in my pocket and getting him a bike for Christmas.

looked at the usual Haro, Redline, SE Racing, Kuwahara but all are used (good nick and all but still a bit battle scarred)- and although i know a 4 year old will have spills etc i'd like to get something new for him (it is for crimbo afterall)

I dont really ant to spend more than £300 on the bike so i'm currentl looking at a 2013 Felt Sector Mini - or a 2009 (new) Free Agent mini

he's been riding a mini at the track so hes happy with the fit and is 3' 9" so probably betwen the 2 sizes.

are there any for and against points to consider between the Free Agent and the Felt, which is the better bike etc. rather open ended but im a roadie (dont hate) :-) and its 30 years since i was racing BMXs so i need all the help i can get.

Fellow Pirate here, both of those would do the job although don't know too much about them.

Its a little over your budget but this one is a good deal and they are really great bikes:

Its worth bearing in mind the popular brands like haro, redline and GT will have a better resale value than the likes of freeagent and felt.

Probably see you down the track some time (-:

Hi, cheers for the advice. Much appreciated

Hmmm good point about the resale and I notice that the Haros have come down a few quid as well at Winstanleys. It's going to get expensive this game! :D

A used bike for £300 should be better than a brand new £300 bike.
The parts on the used bike should be better quality and last longer.

However some bikes.
maybe try a local bike shop to try them out

also try the 2014 editions for these bikes as shops might have some left for sale.
