Hi, Had to ask the orickle (my dad) who remembers a James Smith who rode with the mcfarlans and Ian? woodvine who were older than myself,I think a year or two, Can't remember anyone from my age group. I'm told i only rode once at Harrogate which was a regional. Damian, did your dad run a triumph stag and your brother own a bike shop. He remembers Nick telling him bikes fell off roof rack on a Range Rover. Amazing what he remembers.

The bikes falling of the range rover had nothing to do with me .... , now driving the range rover under a tree with the bikes on is another matter
I also remember getting the blame for a bike falling off nicks bmx specials van "coughs*** nick checked it after i put it on** coughs"

My name is Chris(tian) Whitnall (as opposed to Whitley on a previous post although I did move Whitley Bay so maybe that's where that came from) & I was a member of Ossett Town BMX Club. I'm in the photo where you follow in link in previous post. There's a few familiar and not so familiar names on this post and the same goes for faces....but it's nice to reminisce!

My parents (Brian & Sue) helped set the club up, my Mum was secretary & my Dad did other stuff including the start gate/marshall etc. The only other adult that I remember is Tony Woodvine (and of course his son Ian).

I remember the original track which was situated the opposite side of the football club/pitch and looking back it was the lamest track ever built (a basic U shape with about 2 jumps). The start gate only had room for 4 riders. My parents were also involved in building the new track (that started round the back of the club house then took a right turn round the back of the football pitch) but I don't remember to what extent. I don't think it was long after that I moved up to Whitley Bay (so can't remember too much about the track) where I reigned supreme for many a year and went onto become Number 6 (or so my Mum says which means I was probably in the top 100!!!!) in the NBMXA Nationals set up...then packed it due to personal circumstance.

I've got some great photo's similiar to those already posted but from different events (and some in colour!!) however my phone adapter is at work so they'll have to wait!

This post has brough back some very fond memories so thanks goes out the original poster......

Hi Chris loving these pics bringing back a lot of memories. These must be from around 1984 by the looks of them. I (James Smith) remember you and your dad well (even though I did get your surname wrong in that post, sorry) you used to live off Towngate in Ossett if my memory serves me. Hope your keeping well and look forward to some more pics if you've got any

I dont think the picture that was refered to as Harrogate is Harrogate, unless there was another track built that I didnt know about!

Hello - Paul 'Jock' Parkinson here - he with big hair and some rather dodgy Pringle jumpers by the look of the photos  (I'm also the Hutch full face helmet on the back row of the newspaper photo - inbetween Tim Cooper and Martin Learoyd)

What a trip down memory lane :D found the site quite by chance as through work we are organising a trip to the Derby track and a quick trip down memory lane and a quick spot of google came up with this site.

So yes I remember most of you (and your parents !) Kier, Kristen, Jamie, Christian and Kev 'Tonga' Thompson, as you were all known back then.

Being that bit older then most of you I know a bit more about the early days of the club so I'll post more when I get a bit of time

Kieron on the track lay out - I'm pretty sure that what is your 3rd corner went up on to the back straight - it did not loop round again.

On the history - my first starter for 10 is that at the first two races (on the small track) there was no start gate - it was a peice of elastic  - it was pinged across either by Christian's dad or Mel Preistley

All the best to you all and say hello to your mums and dads ! - how sad does that sound :D

Hi Kieron,

I remember this track but I didn't know where it was so thanks for solving the mystery :) . I only raced there once at a regional and it was really wet muddy. I remember a fast downhill first straight, 90 left, short straight, tight 180 right, short straight, tight 180 left, slightly longer straight (up hill ? ), 180 left, short finish straight.
